Hi everyone, at the School Family Engagement Conference held last weekend, there was some discussion around the need for a National Family Engagement Strategy.  I'm wondering if any of you have been thinking along similar lines and would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

That sounds like a good idea - I'm thinking it might mean lobbying federal and state/territory ministers to put it on the agenda for one of their meetings; perhaps ACSSO could offer to facilitate such a strategy - before any other agency gets in!

Yes - it was put into our pre - budget submission as well as our initial email to Jason Clare but we shouldn't stop there - support from jurisdictions, whether members or not would also be helpful

    Hi Everyone

Congratulations to all for the successful ACSSO 2022 Conference - PV delegates returned with a buzz of excitement and enthusiasm as the research and discussion reaffirmed the importance of this national objective.

At a state level PV has done a number of things and even though they have not all been delivered by our state government "persistence pays"!
From past experience in seeking Victorian 40km school speed zones (achieved in 4 years) and an independent office for school dispute resolution (achieved in 11 years) we developed shopping list of things at the 2018 State Election and another for the upcoming in 2 weeks!

Seeking Family Engagement Officers (FEO's) or whatever school communities or Govt want to call them, an additional human resource to facilitate and achieve family engagement and collaborative community connectedness.  It should not all be so hard - parents and carers need support to have the relationship and schools need a mechanism to connect when they are having challenges to do this effectively.   ACSSO and state orgs need to emphasise and utilise what the current concerns school workforces are telling us - they need help to reduce workload demands!

All our Family Engagement information is easily accessed on our website for further information.

I agree with Judy with her recommendation for ACSSO to act quickly to facilitate this agenda with the Federal Government and get it on their meeting agendas - even if it's under addressing the education workforce challenges.

I can see  as at September 2022 this is the current information shared on the govt's website and ACSSO is listed as one of the key support agencies.
From what I understand the Federal Govt don't see the significant importance and priority the engagement plays in regard to student learning and wellbeing everyday!
A school doesn't just enrol a student, they enrol a family or relevant person to that student.

Does ACSSO need to target Department of Social Services (due to being family engagement) as well as Department of Education on this objective?
